How to choose a coffee table

A correctly selected coffee table will help not only to make the most practical use of the space in the room, but also bring individuality, originality, bright and unusual accents into the interior. When choosing a coffee table, one should be guided by the following factors: multifunctionality, safety of materials and forms, stylistic compliance with the design of the room.

Standard coffee table sizes

Despite the huge variety of assortments in the furniture market, absolutely all products are subject to certain canons. In the case of small, compact tables, the main standard is the height. The width and depth of the models do not have specific standard dimensions. With these parameters, designers vary at their discretion, and also (in the case of individual production) change the dimensions in relation to the architectural features of the room, the purpose of the furniture, the stylistic orientation of interior design and much more.

The standard height of the coffee table ranges from 400-450 mm. It is these dimensions that are suitable for comfortable use of a table installed near the sofa. There are also very low models (from 20 cm in height) and options slightly higher than typical (up to 55 cm).

How to choose a coffee table by style

  • Modern styles involve the use of furniture with regular geometric shapes. Most often these are round or square (rectangular) models without much decor. Also in modern interiors, asymmetric products are often found, bringing extraordinary and creative accents to the design of the room.
  • Classic options are saturated with smooth lines, carved decor, embossed overlays. The legs of the coffee tables are squat, but at the same time they are necessarily bent, with carvings. Classic-style countertops have an additional decorative edging in the form of a grooved ornament.
  • Ethno style. Colorful options that emphasize the ethnic origin of a particular style. Most often these are tables made of natural solid wood with inserts of fabric, eco-leather, metal.

The main materials used in the manufacture of coffee tables: chipboard, metal, glass, natural wood, MDF. Recently, models made from pallets are especially relevant. Despite the simplicity of execution, these options look quite attractive and stylish.

Additional functionality

Small coffee tables can be equipped with additional features to help you make the most of your furniture. Drawers, exit baskets for bottles, folding mechanisms, adjustable legs and much more can significantly expand the range of applications for familiar furniture.

Don't underestimate small coffee tables. After all, it is they who will help to combine disparate interior decor, furniture and textiles into a single, holistic and harmonious composition.
